My PS2 just recently stopped playing some of my games, more like it wont read the disc right for some reason but it will play other games just fine, for instance; I tried playing my god of war game(which I just beat by the way the other day) and my metal gear solid 3(which I know works). Yet heres the thing, when I tried playing them after I knew they played well before and beaten them(at least god of war) my PS2 wouldnt read them, so I put in another game(guitar hero) and it played it just fine, so I tried god of war again and it still wouldnt read it, it plays DVD's just fine as well but some games it wont play, is the lens dirty or something or is my PS2 going on the fritz..please help, I hope its just a dirt problem.

This is a common problem with the PS2. It happened to mine to. Depending on the type of PS2 you have the laser may be starting to break down. It will not be powerful enough to keep playing games. The only way to fix it is to replace the laser lens, which would cost the same as buying a new PS2.

I actually heard something of this nature. The really old version and the newer versions had a problem were the reader would fail.

Little known fact there were a few different styles of PS2. Nothing big, just little adjustments.

because PS games come in 3 different formats, PSone(black backing), PS2 Game Disc(Purple backing), and DVD(silver or gold backing). Okay understanding that the laser has quite a job to do, and the laser my just be out of adjustment.

here is a little hint do not use your ps2 for a dvd player it will make it die faster like smoking will kill you faster use your regular dvd player to play dvd's if you do not have dvd player then get one they are getting cheaper by the minute. now to answer your question if you have a electric air pump use that to blow out the dust if you do not have one then go to radio shack or gamestop they will have something to clean it ask them about it they will help but to tell you the truth what I just said most likely will not work you will just have to get another ps2 and when you do get a new one or my solution works remember do not play dvd's on your ps2 smoking is hazedous it kills

You might just need to clean the leans with a standard CD lens cleaner (you can get one at any store that sells electronics).

Either the PS2, or the game it won't play, is damaged.
