I got an unexpected look at myself in the mirror today, and realized that I don't exactly dress like other people, which led me to think about my general behavior, which *also* is not like other people, and I began to wonder if it isn't because I'm an artist, and have been all my life.

Opinions?

The artistic mind can be quite, well, artistic. We are too busy with our own thoughts to bother with anything else... So, our appearance and attitudes reflect that. I have an artistic bent (read: free-thinker), so my dress, speech, absent-mindedness, and even my childlike take on parenting get me stares. I dress to minimize distraction to myself, so I wear a lot of inexpensive solid tees, jeans, and flip-flops. I stand out in that I don't... until I open my mouth!

Don't worry about that. Be yourself and be unique and be happy. How you dress and behave is not an issue as long as it does not cause harm to others.
I am not that mainstream myself and almost became an artist too. :)

People are who they are. You have to live in your own skin, so be comfortable to wear what you want to reflect who you are inside on the outside
