Because everyone has there own reality , often the truth isnt as simple as black and white ....... people tend to allow for there own brand of truth , in terms of day and night I think most people believe the truth , I mean you wont find too many people that will not belive it is night when it is pitch black outside . I think you question is more greared toward people beliving your truth, Take for example what I personally believe to be the truth about the war in Iraq , my mother in law would say I was wrong and she in my opinion fails to see the truth , she and everyone else choses to live within the own reality , my truth may not be your truth .......... Now if you are talking about facts ...most people i know dont hesitate to believe facts ........with your question I think its more your personal truth that people may hesitate to believe .....

Because we all have certain faiths, to sustain us. What we come across certain facts (truth) that are contrary to the facts on which our faith is based, we tend to reject them outright. This is true in the case of an individual or a group. A person who steadfastly trust and believe in the faithfulness of his/her spouse, if confronted with a fact to discredit the character of the spouse, reacts violently to any suggestion of unfaithfulness. It is because it shakes the foundation of his trust on the other person. Similar is the reaction of a religious order, when confronted with facts opposed to the professed faith of that religious group. How did the Christian church react to the scientific discoveries of yore by such scientists like Galileo, Copernicus etc. Some were put to stake. Darwin's Theory of Evolution is even now reviled by the traditional Christians. The reaction is understandable. It shakes the very foundation of the man's belief system and the religion's very existence become questioned.

What "truth" are you speaking of? Did you know that there can be several truths in place at the same time? It is called a divine dichotemy. This is where two opposites can both be true, even though they contradict each other.

If the truth stands againts their belief they hesitate it.
Somebody makes a mistake you tell them it becomes difficult to accept it as it makes them feel low. Its a common and a natural tendency you need a maturity to actually accept the truth and understand and accept things.

Depends on which side you are. Truth is always not visible and whatever you believe also need not be truth. This is the problem between India and Pakistan also.

Sometimes we like to hide from ourselves we create a illusion of what is happening around us, this we call the comfort zone. As soon as someone tells you what is really happening in the real world, your zone is disturbed you have to face all the monster you so neatly put away, and that my friend is why people don't like hearing the truth

Because they either don't want to know the truth or they are scared of the truth. They usually go into denial.

There is no such thing as the truth. There's only what you're willing to accept as a truth, and even that can be stretched beyond recognition.
