They are 5 and 9. They are like my cousins, but I am out of ideas to entertain them. They only want to play on my video game systems and they are fairly ill-behaved.

u don't need to entertain them, they re very fine being with themselves. so let them play your videogames and prepare a few puzzles - autistic kids like doing puzzles. also some of them like reading comic books. i used to work with autistic children, they re not much trouble is u just provide them some brain activity and leave them alone. try not to touch them or invade their personal space
ps. someone adviced u to make them sure u love them - no need in that, they do not comprehend what love is. or hate. they just are without any emotion. sometimes they can feel anger, if smth doesn't work

Let them do what ever keeps them entertained. I have an autistic son. As for the behavior, sometimes autistics can not help it when they misbehave. Too much noise or too many people talking at once can make them like that because their brain can not handle too much going on at one time. Or maybe they want something but autistics have trouble saying what they are thinking and it is very frustrating for them. Just be patient.

your not stuck you must have had a choice? either way treat them nice and be good to them. some autistic children can be violent as i worked at a facility for some time. maybe these boys are not? let them play video games if they enjoy it. make sure you turn off the video game when you feed them. don't fall asleep while babysitting these boys as something could happen. make some pizza, popcorn.or ice cream. I'm sure they would like the food if no allergy's. do you have anything else to offer them? dim the lights play some soft music they will like that. do they play ball? if its not to late and you have a screened in yard you could play ball or if you have a soft light cushy ball you could play in a room that nothing could get broke. if these boys are use to video games and you cant get them to do nothing else id let them play but still watch them. thank you Kat

Try renting DVD's my autistic son loves Monsters Inc and Ice Age. They generally love things funny and animated. Being that autistic kids are not terribly sociable a DVD is your best bet. Don't give them sugary food, or grapes. Popcorn is good, easy on the salt. Have fun with them, by watching the DVD with them.

Make sure you can contact the parents almost immediately and a lot of patience. If you see them like your cousins then express that you want them to have fun within reason if it is possible and explain and do your best to be tolerant. Remember they're autistic.

Play some classical music, like Mozart. That really helps. And maybe just dance and have fun. Music helps the autistic children

Good luck.

Autistic can come in so many ways .Some mild and severe .You don't say .If you know what movie they like let them watch one that will keep them still until it becomes bed time. There are others it doesn't matter they just can't set still they have to walk and get into things ,Best of luck you have your hands full.

Feed them, wear them out, turn the clocks ahead and tell them it's almost time for bed...they'll have another big day tomorrow! Warm milk and crackers, a movie...best to you with your loved ones this fine night/morning. HEY, what are ya'll doing UP at this hour?

i think u should be asking their parents this question. but u kinda answered it yourself. u know what they like. they like video games.

ask their parents what they do if they misbehave.

find out what they are facinated with. all the autistic children ive worked with are facinated with movement. eg water wheels. anything you turn over and watch flow.

i put colured water in an empty coke bottle n taped another bottle to it so they can watch water flow from one bottle to the other.

goodluck mate :O)

Hell if they want to entertain themselves with video games I'd say you're off the hook. Let 'em at it.
