Well I know I am supposed to have pain-I have a big baby in there! But, I'm having pain inside of my vagina and was wondering what this pain could be? I also have pain in my "bottom" and feel like i need to go to the restroom..But when I go, nothing happens!! I have the urge to PUSH! but, when i try, it hurts..

I was also wondering..When you dialate-can you feel it? I was thinking maybe that was the pain i was having(besides his head pushing down) but no one seems to be able to answer this question for me..please help! thanks!!

Sounds like you are having lightening- another term for engagement. I did this will all 3 of my kids and it is very uncomfortable, but hang in there!

Lightening refers to changes in bodily sensations resulting from the baby’s head settling into the pelvis. In the first pregnancy, lightening may occur up to two weeks before the onset of labor; in subsequent pregnancies, it may not occur until labor starts.

Sensations produced when the baby moves lower into the pelvis include:

decreased shortness of breath
decreased heartburn
increased urinary frequency
increased pelvic pressure
increased constipation
increased stretching of the pelvic ligaments, causing the mother to "waddle" and her hips to ache
The uterus also changes in size and shape, causing clothes to fit differently (the top of the uterus is lower and more forward).

Increased frequency of Braxton-Hicks (false labor) contractions are sometimes experienced by women. The uterus feels like it "balls up" for several seconds. These contractions generally are painless or mildly uncomfortable and usually occur in the last two months of pregnancy. They are irregular, infrequent, shorter in duration than real labor contractions and do not cause the cervix, the lower portion of the uterus, to dilate or efface (thin). Although they usually subside in a few hours, these contractions become more pronounced during the last three weeks of pregnancy, especially if this is not the first baby. Remember, these are not regular.

Bloody show is a pink-to brownish-colored mucus vaginal discharge caused by the loss of the mucus plug, which seals the cervix during pregnancy. As the cervix softens in preparation for labor, the mucus plug is released. The may sometimes be confused with the small amount of bloody discharge caused by a recent vaginal exam or intercourse. Bloody show is not bleeding. Bleeding, which is red and resembles a period, must be reported to the doctor immediately.

Rupture of membranes refers to the breaking of the bag of water (amniotic fluid), which surrounds, cushions and protects the baby during pregnancy. Clear, odorless fluid may leak or flow from the vagina. This may occur before labor starts; if so, contractions, or tightening of the uterus, usually begin within 24 to 48 hours. Once your water breaks, call the doctor immediately, whether or not you are having contractions. The doctor will want the baby delivered within 24 to 48 hours after the membranes rupture to protect the baby from infection.

Does the pain come in waves? like contractions? if so go to the hospital and get checked. I know it can be embarrassing to be sent home but it is worth it to be safe--I am an RN and it was my worst fear to be sent home but I was once. The baby moving down into position increases the urge to urinate but if you really have the urge to push and pain in your bottom or lower back that is definately how some women experience labor.

The way you feel dilation is to feel the contractions--you don't really feel yourself widening. At least I didn't and have never heard of it. Sometimes your hips feel looser d/t widening.

The pain inside your vagina is proberly from the baby pushing down on you, same for your bottom. I had the same thing when i was pregnant. I just put it down to the baby
Also i dont think you cant feel when you dilate. I didnt, all i felt was pain from the contractions.
Not far left to go, try not to worry and good luck

Get to your doctor or go to the emergency dept. of nearest hospital. It sounds like the baby's on the way. If you need the answer to this sort of question ring Health First which is staffed by nurses 24/7. The number is 6207 7777

See your doctor about this! That is sometimes a sign of a miscarriage (the urge to push).

Don't ask around on the internet. This is a BABY! Come on now! You gotta think about 2 people now.

I HAVE HAD 2 BABYS AND BOTH WER E PREMATURE. ONE WAS 1 MONTH EARLY AND THE OTHER 2 MONTHS EARLY. IF YOU ARE HAVING PAIN IN YOUR BOTTOM AND FEELING THE URG TO PUSH. THAN YOU ARE DIALATING. MY MOTHER WENT TO THE DOCTOR WHEN SHE SHE WAS PREGNENT WITH MY LIL SISTER THEN 3 HOURS LATER SHE WAS IN THE HOSPITOL HAVING HER , SO DONT DEPEND ON THAT, JUST CAUSE YOU VISITED YOUR O.B. TODAY. IF YOU WAIT TO MUCH LONGER YOU WILL BE TOO LATE FOR YOUR UPADERAL THEN YOU WILL REALLY BE IN PAIN.SO YOU MIGHT WANNA GET YOU THINGS AND QUIT PLAYING ON THE COMPUTER AND GO TO THE E.R.I AM NOT TRYING TO BE RUDE , BECAUSE I HAD ALOT OF PROBLAMS BEFORE AND AFTER GIVING BIRTH WITH MY LAST BABY. SO I AM VERY NERVOUS WHEN IT COMES TO GIVING BIRTH. YOU DONT WANT TO TAKE ANY CHANCES. TOO MANY THINGS COULD GO WRONG. YOU DONT WANT TO PUT THE BABY IN STRESS DURING LABOR. TRUST ME.ITS A SCARY THING.

You need to call your doctor or midwife right now- this could be pre labor. It sounds an awful lot like the way I felt when my second baby was about to be born.

Good luck and take care of yourself.

I had a similar pain with all 4 of my pregnancies. It felt like fingernails scratching at my at my cervix. I told everyone it was my demon spawn trying to claw his way out. lol! My midwife told me that it was my cervix starting to soften and getting ready for delivery. Like I said, it happened with all 4 and I had no problems or complications with any. Happy delivery!
