I found a Amanita type mushroom, I know that these are very deadly and i don't plian to eat it, but i'm very intrested in know what I have found, I have read many field guide and could not come up with an ID. the cap is light tan with darker brown streaks,and a dark brown center and is raised like a nipple on a baby bottle, with dark brown scales like patches.It is 4"X4", and is flat with the edges sloping. The gills are white and close.The stem is long 7 1/2" and not hollow,it is darker tan than the cap.the bace isn't swollen.It has a ring around the stem and it light tan as well. I know this is not a death cap nor is it a "destrorying angel". any and all help would be great.

Mushroom identification is often difficult with a live specimen. A photograph can help, but there is much variation within species, especially from locality to locality. A spore print often helps.

What you describe could be an Amanita species, but this does not rule out others. Check out the sites below for a good variety of pics and descriptions:

It sounds like Amanita Caesaria. Google that name and see if it fits. You may find information that this is an edible mushroom, but don't try it.

EDIT: Ater further thought, you might have Amanita Panthera. It is more browish and it is smaller than A. Caesaria. And it is poisonous.

I hear mushrooms are really hard to ID even for good people. You might get someone to tell you something. You might try to get a photo. I hear it is even hard from that. I am glad that you say you are not going to eat it. Eating mushrooms is dangerous.
