Just like air and water, soil can be contaminated. This is usually a chemical contamination. In some cases the soil will become so polluted that it will no longer support the growth of plants and other living organisms.

Common pollutants include soaps and detergents, oil and oil products, fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, heavy metals, industrial chemicals and solvents.
