Hi there;
There are some options still open to you. First get the error code that popped up along with the error statement. Then go to the symantec web site and look up the error code. There may be a manual fix for your problem.
Should symantec state on their web site that you must reinstall your software then the following steps are the ones you should follow:
First DO NOT UNINSTALL your software yet.
Instead get your activation key by opening Nortons.
In the upper right corner of the window you will find "help and support", click on that.
Next, click on "about norton" from the drop down menu.
Then in the next window that opens up select the tab that has the antivirus. This should bring up information such as version and under that will be your product/activation key. YOU WILL NEED this!
Once you have your product key you can then contact Symantec for a replacement CD. I believe you will have to pay for the shipping but that's minimal compared to having your comp toasted by some nasty from the internet. I hope this helps you. Good luck. :)

The real problem is Norton/symantec have so little tech support you can't get any help making their shitty products work, BOTTOM LINE IS NORTON SUCKS.... use anything else..They haven't responded to my e-mail of over a month ago...I would never again buy their products...

Well it must have been corrupted by some trojan(its like the thief catching the police). The same happened to my Norton 2005 10 days ago. You neednot reinstall Norton. There are better options available over the net and all of them are free!!! Try any one of these before the trojan corrupts your system:
1. AVG:

2. Avast:

3. Avira:

4. Comodo:

5. Clamwin:

If you registered your product with Symantec, you can email them and tell them about your dilemma. They might give you a link for downloading, I don't use Norton so am not sure if it will work in your case. It's worth a try.

hi, perhaps you can try Norton to remove the virus and protect your PC. but you need to pay for that.

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.

besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

download firefox for free:

Best Wishes && Good Luck!
