hmm.. how does one define a soldier: are they mindless robots who follow orders without question, are they blameless automatons without consciences, are they fearless fighters for freedom or are they ordinary people who for what ever reason have chosen to defend their chosen country without question. Should they be held accountable for the orders they follow, no matter how heinous, or should their commanders be ultimately responsible for all of their troops actions. Country to country reasons differ, some are forced into service, some choose it, what ever they are, they are still people

As a former army soldier,, they are doing a tough job under bad conditions,, but that is what they signed up and are trained to do.
I agree with the others, as a whole they are no better or worse than any other group of people.

In war time situations then Soldiers do a very difficult job.. Danger and possible death is ever present and there has to be a temptation to bend the rules of engagement.. In battle there is no time to think about the big picture, its all about managing the moment and trying to stay alive!.
In the past civilians protesters have undermined the ability of soldiers to be objective and to do their jobs.!. The Vietnam war was a prime example of the denigration of respect! for fighting men. Its well known that returning vets where subjected to countless verbal attacks both in person and from the media.
I have the greatest respect for military!.. and not much respect for inept politicians who squander lives in often un - necessary wars!.

I think that they a douche bags, party animals, as$holes, drunks, morons, no concern for the general public, poor respect for everyone else, etc. Did I mention that I dated someone in the military? Never date someone in the military, worse men EVER. I also live in a Military town, so I know what I am talking about. The military is looked down upon... here and everywhere else.

Young guys looking for a better opportunity in life. Most of the ones I know joined initially for a chance to get an education and see parts of the world theyd probably never get to see.

programmed robots by the time they are trained
they go through some heavy brainwashing techniques.
especially the special forces.
so their minds are not really their own any more
they cannot be blamed for anything
i am sure they are ok guys ,and they do risk their lives
that has to account for a lot
even if the motives are unpopular ,
their actions are not their idea but the ruthless manipulators who control them.

I think highly of myself (hehe). Well, to be honest, soldiers in the Army are like any other group of people. They are not all heros, in fact, some can be downright screwed up. But we all appreciate the support. Thanks.

They are no better or worse than the general population. There are some exceptionally duty bound ones and some slackers, just like the rest of us.

I feel sorry for the situation they are in. And would not wish that on anyone, considering what this war was said to be created on.
