Repeal of the 55 mph speed limit? That was in 1995 but I'm not sure that there is a causal relationship. There are more accidents because people are driving more miles. The number of accidents per mile driven has actually decreased.

Bill Clinton is surely to blame....... that was the year that Janet Reno made several televised speeches. After seeing Ms. Reno many people were unable to see clearly which caused them to have car crashes. Other people just flat out went blind. She is so ugly covered with little round circles where people have been touching her with ten foot poles. She is so ugly her momma would pour bacon grease on her just to get the dog to play with her. She is so ugly ..one time she came home with rice in hair...her mama thought she had gotten married... but it turns out she had lunch at a Chinese restaurant and the waiter threw up on her.

more horsepower, same crappy drivers. The average car in the '80's had maybe 100hp (even luxury V6's barely had 140 -150hp, now there are tons of cars that have close to 300 horsepower, but there is no additional driver training to tech people how to handle that extra power and speed.

1995? Wow, nothing comes to mind. I was thinking the driving age changed, or the drinking age changed, or something.

But nothing major like that happened, that I know of...
