Someone up there is confusing ovarian cancer with cervical cancer, which is caused mainly by the human papilloma virus (genital warts). Ovarian cancer has no such link to HPV or any other virus for that matter.

Here is an interesting article stating single folks die sooner!

In regard to ovarian cancer specifically:

Specifically, I think it also has to do with single women don't have children (well, they do more and more nowadays) but anyway...women who have never given birth have a greater risk of developing ovarian cancer than women who have had children. In fact, the number of childbirths correlates directly with a decrease in risk for developing ovarian cancer. The likely explanation for this risk factor seems to be related to the number of menstrual periods a women has had in her lifetime. Those who began menstruating early (before age 12), had no children, had their first child after age 30, and/or experienced menopause after age 50 have a greater chance of developing ovarian cancer than the general population.

Therefore, to avoid ovarian cancer aside from the other risk factors, you want to have several children, breastfeed them all as long as possible (supresses menstruation) and use contraceptives to suppress ovulation, but avoid hormone replacement therapy after menopause. However long term use of birth control pills may be linked to a higher risk of estrogen dependent breast cancer tumors so that's not a very good tradeoff. Best case scenario: supress ovulation naturally by starting menses late, reaching menopause early, have a couple of kids and breastfeed them all!

Maybe it is partially because the birth control pill reduces the chance of ovarian cancer and single women may have a lower rate of pill use. Many married women probably find a type of pill and stick to it regularly for years. Just a guess though.

They are more prone to the cancer because they have multiple partners. Married women generally have only one. Ovarian Cancer is contracted thru a virus, this is spread thru the STD path. So if your partner has multiple partners you are even more at risk. Some women carry the virus but do not develop cancer. Make an appt. with your OB/GYN, there is a vaccination for it. Good Luck
