Hi everyone i have a two gallon acrylic tank for my res and I just want to know if it is ok to buy a 50 watt heater for it because the weather is already getting cold here in China and my problem is that I cannot find those mini heater. Do you think my res will get cooked if I use a 50 watt heater for a two gallon tank?

First off, you need a much larger tank! (even if you only have a hatchling) Second, YES, it will COOK THEM! Your basking light should heat the water adequately, assuming you have one. However, by the size of your tank, I'm going to assume you don't know a ton about RESs. Check out my page which covers the BARE essentials of RES care. PLEASE take care of your new pet! No one else will! www.geocities.com/radiofemme/turtles

Good luck!

I'm assuming res means a red ear slider turtle right? Before I would invest in a heat light I'd get the poor thing a bigger tank! A recomended size tank for a turtle is 75 gallons! Until then I'd put the small tank near the heat register in the house and buy a temprature gauge!

If you move the heater away from the tank as needed, it should be fine.

The bigger problem is that the tank is too small. The minimum recommended tank for Red-ear sliders is 10 gallons, and the rule is supposed to be 10 gallons of swimming water per inch of turtle.

Good luck!

not positive which producer we offered they truthfully promote it at walmart and it doesnt might want to be fully submerged. It makes ;like slightly water fall that our turtle loves i trust for as a lot as like 40 gallons the clear out is healthier 35-430 bucks and the filters are sooo accessible to variety it recomends to regulate them once a month in spite of the undeniable fact that we do ours each and every 2 weeks (filters are like 5-6 bucks for 3) looks to artwork gorgeous nicely. We also dont have any rocks or gravel or something on the bottom of the tank so there's a lot less stuff for it to get stuck in. I easily have considered that the poop and such builds up on the rocks that he can solar on in spite of the undeniable fact that an historic toothbrush will spoil it loose and the clear out looks to handle it alluring sturdy.

20 GALLON TANK THAT WOULD BE SO SMALL THATS LIKE REPTILE ABUSE, but first get a 75-80 gallon tank then, yes it will cook it, its like sitting inside a oven at 200 degrees for a human that is hot for a turtle, but if its getting cold in china already then just let him hibernate (assuming ress means red eared slider??).
