have any of you worked there as a sales associate? what was your pay & how was your experience?

Starting pay (with no experience) would probably be minimum wage and maybe commission on top of that.
I've never worked in retail sales, but knew people who have - answer is based on listening to them.
edited to add:
Unless you have an outgoing personality PLUS patience, you may not like retail sales. You would have to deal with the me-me-me, I'm important you're not type of people and if part of your salary depends on commission, you would have to deal with cutthroat co-workers.

Depends mostly where you live. I heard they pay around $7.50 to $8.00 per hour.

Those stores usually pay min. wage.
