I've been smoking for 20 yrs. I have a cough that I can't shake, I know it's from the smoking but it seems impossible to quit. I mean you know, I quit the hard stuff with no help from anyone, but these damn cigarettes won't let me go. Who's successfully quit, and what did you do?

I can tell you something that may help you. It was helping me, I was down to 4 cigs a day, but then wham, the stuff started making me CRAZY. It's a drug called Wellbutrin or Zyban. They are anti depressants but doctors have been perscribing them for a few years now to help people quit smoking. It's odd that an anti depressant would have sent me into depression, but it did. Not everyone has that problem or side effect though. Lots of my friends have successfully quit using the drug.

This is true. I said a prayer and told God I needed to quit. I asked him to help me do so. When the time was right let me know and I would throw away whatever was in my pack of cigarettes that day. The day came and I threw a 1/2 pack away. I crumbled them up and in the garbage they went. I went through a time when I cried, wanting a cigarette so bad. I did not smoke. I saw the cig. butts my husband left in the ash tray. I lit them with a lighter not touching my mouth etc. I just needed to smell the smoke. This went on til I got to not liking the smell any longer. I then had my husband empty his ash tray before going to bed and work. This is how I quit and to this day I pray to God I will not start again. I am 6 years smoke free now.

I know that it has to be hard to quite but you must. Your cough might mean that you have cancer. Or might mean that you are developing some kind of breathing problem best if you get your cough check out.

don't mean to scare you but I knew someone who had the most strange cough I've ever heard --and she soon thereafter died from lung cancer. . .
