It is not normal.
Hopefully he is not being potty trained so early and getting consequences for having bowel accidents! This can cause enduring constipation (and psychological problems) in children. I don't believe you'd do that, would you? That is the worse case scenerio.
Other than that, make sure s/he has plenty of fluids, including 100% fruit juices (although too much can cause obesity.) Add fiber from applesauce, prunes, celery sticks (monitor) and other fiberous veggies. Decrease the use of cereals a bit and watch for too much iron. Since just about all formulas and cereals are fortified with iron, too much can be constipating. Ask your doctor about this.

No, probably what he/she is eating. The diet is key to a child's health. Some cold medications can cause that also. The best thing for it is Colace(stool softener for infants and toddlers), just a tiny bit in some juice will help soften the stool and your child will be more regular. If it continues go to the Ped. Best of Luck...

yes this is normal. i gave my baby prunes every once in a while to keep her regular. Juice also helps but I wouldn't give alot of juice because its not good for your child to drink alot of juice. my toddler was constipated on and off alot also. I also gave my child some water and sometimes I gave her applesauce that also loosened her up. Hope this helps you some.

It's not a big deal if he or she doesn't have a BM for 1 or maybe 2 days. Cut back on cheese and cookies. Increase water, fruits, vegetables, yogurt, prune juice, fiber.

My sister's 3 year old, has been on Merilax, since he was baby,, he is always constipated. She has tried every thing, a specialist put him on this, and it works great, was told no side effects.

yes....mine daughter was so bad once i had to call the nurse on-call during the weekend....she said to 1st..use a lubed rectal thermometer in her bum ..sometimes that gives them the urge to go....then a warm bath helps and finally a small amount of sugar in warmed water....that helped...after that she said to lay off the binding kinds of foods and also get prune juice every once in awhile...now at 4 she still comes out hard so at her annual physical last week the MD actually said to get something like Metamucil and use half the adult amount...

I wouldn't say that it is normal, try to encourage your child to drink plenty of water, and eat fibre rich foods and plenty of fruits and vegetables. Also try to prevent your child from eating lots of the same thing - everybody needs verity in their diet!!
