Because they love their children and don't want to see them die for something they themselves don't believe in.

We saw the same behavior in Vietnam.

Why do you think the Greatest Generation fought and won the Second World War...because Americans from every strata of our society came together to defeat German, Italian and Japanese tyranny.

United we win....divided some die.

Michael Moore brought a unique light to this very question in Fahrenheit 9/11. What Michael Moore did was very noble to ask questions about why only one member of congress had a son or daughter in Iraq, I believe it was. The scenes where Michael Moore was trying to sign up sons or daughters of the members of congress was just absolutely classic!

I think I heard from The Daily Show that it is more for ideology to want to have war but then let other people fight it. It's most cowardly on the pro-war conservatives' part.

OK, first off, they can't enlist their children. The kids have to decide for themselves. This illustrates either outstanding ignorance on your part or political stupidity.

Now the correction...

The love their kids. Why would the want them to take any risks? Regardless of whether or not they believe in the war at hand they should convince their kids to take educational deferments, NG service, etc. As elected officials they might have enough pull to make any military service easier. This fits the character of the politician and should be of no surprise.

It will always be better if one can get others to fight ones' wars without taking any personal risk.

Well enlisting in any service to our country is a personal decision. Both my parents served, one retired. I enlisted and my sibling didn't. I'm sure there are congressmen who have children who have served our country. I'm proud to serve but as I said it is a personal decision that we each american must make for him or herself. My hope is that because we make the personal decision to serve is that you can sleep peaceful at night.

They can not enlist their children you have to be 18 to enlist, and at that point it is their children's decision whether or not to join.
