Ryan is a name from Irish Gaelic meaning 'Little King'. It derives from the Old Irish word rí, meaning "King", combined with a diminutive suffix, -án. Regan or Reagan are alternate forms of the name (from the Proto-Celtic root *régos, also meaning "king").
