3x + 2y = 645
5x + 4y = 1135

Multiply top by -2

-6x - 4y = -1290
5x + 4y = 1135

-x = -155
x = 155

3x + 2y = 645
3(155) + 2y = 645
465 + 2y = 645
2y = 200
y = 100

$155 for a one night's stay
$100 for each pair of baseball tickets

A: 3x + 2y = 645
B: 5x + 4y = 1135

To solve it, double equation A to be:

6x + 4y = 1290

Then subtract equation B:

6x + 4y = 1290
-5x - 4y = -1135

x = ...

Then you plug into one of the other equations to find the value of y.
