A shutout is when the team fails to score any points! And yes that certainly appears to be that they can't play anymore! Brett Farve certainly can't which is a shame as if he had retired when he said, he would have almost guaranteed himself a place in the hall of fame! However, now everyone is going to remember the bad stuff!

by the 3rd quarter everyone knew that the packers were not going to score, so a shutout is called meaning no points due to inability to (or incapability) to score

A shut out is when you don't get any points, or in hockey you don't allow any. So by being shutout it means they couldn't score.

It means they had no points. As a Packer fan it doesn't look good. I'm guessing a 4 - 6 win season.

The Packers lost by "0"...a shut out is when one team beats another team and the team loses by getting 0 points....they were shut out so to speak!!!

It just means they didn't score any points; they were held to zero points.
Shutouts are uncommon, but they aren't rare. I think the word has more pop than its meaning.

It means they didn't score any points which had never happened before with Farve at QB.
