Don't expect age limits to make much sense. In the UK they think you're old enough to join the army earlier than they think you're old enough to watch pictures of sex or violent movies, drive a car or drink alcohol. The laws in many other countries make about as much sense.

Well, actually, you shouldn't do either until you are mature enough to handle it or deal with the consequences.
16 is too young to be able to care for a child emotionally or financially, so I'd say you shouldn't have sex at 16. I'd rather you just look at the pictures.
And in Missouri, just to counter those not until 18 claims, statutory rape is someone over 21 with someone under 17. So they don't actually tell you WHEN you can have sex, just the appropriate age of your partner.

It is obvious you are referring to UK laws as everyone else seems to think you are insane saying that the age limit is 16. This is helpful, because I live in the UK and can relate to your problem.
The laws, around the world, not only in the UK are a conglomeration of statutes that have been collected over the past two thousand years (plus) and so there are weird inconsistencies.
As others have stated, you are able to fight for your country, ride a motorcycle, buy a lottery ticket or cigarettes and have sexual relationships at 16, however you have to wait a further two years to be able to marry without your parent's consent, buy alcohol or pornographic material (soft or hard) which you yourself may have starred in for the past two years!
There are some that believe that the age of 16 is too high (!), others, that believe it should be raised. If young people are allowed to purchase pictures of a sexual nature at 16, they may not be responsible enough to keep it from those younger than themselves.
It is just one of those crazy laws that exist, and we have to abide by it, or through voting and lobbying our MP, change it.

Because British laws are stupid.
Its mainly to to with the fact that when a new law is added, they don't seem to take into account that some older laws might contradict it. Whenever this situation occurs, they just create more laws to counteract the contradiction instead of just abolishing the old one.
Like I said, British law is stupid. For more information, look up ASBOs.

Because you shouldn't be having sex you shouldn't see the pictures. Even though I was when I was your age. I wish I would of waited. Or used birth-control. So have fun having sex, but use birth-control and protection.
