I got all the parts to build my own computer put it together plugged everything in, put the windows install CD in, after windows formats the HD it stops saying windows can't go on with out damaging your computer. When I restart it, the comp goes to a black screen with a cursor. I've already exchanged the HD but it did the same thing, I must be doing something wrong but I don't know what.

Could be many reasons, the most likely one for that problem is RAM.

I's say it could be the memory, hard drive, windows CD, or your IDE/SATA cable. Try changing out the cable first. It could be as simple as that.

What makes you think you can build a computer and not have the experience to trouble-shoot the problems that occur!

despite in case you haven't any longer put in the OS you will get to the bios exhibit. in case you get a sparkling exhibit you will get some beeps to enable you be responsive to what the concern is. what's the variety and trend of the beeps? good luck

its your memory, wipe out the hard drive and get new memory sticks and that should do it, unless its ur windows cd

Maybe one of the devices on your motherboard is damaged.. Its not your hd.. it maybe your memory..
