I have liberal arts B.A. (diplomacy & foreign affairs) and have been out of college for about 8 years now.
Most of my experience has been in sales, which I absolutely hate, but money is important to me - I want to be able to afford to do a lot of things in my life. I just find sales very boring - once you find a formula its all just repetition. Also, in the business world you are competing against people who are often disingenous at best, so you are at an inherent disadvantage if you are completely honest, which I really need to be.

An other option is grad school and it is something that I am considering right now, but nothing seems like an obvious choice, especially when I consider the financial rewards - it seems that the more the appeal, the less they pay.

Generally speaking, my interests lie in problem solving, international travel, researching, and creativity.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

It seems like the problem is you are going after the big paycheck. Set that aside for a second, and think about what you would love to do, even if you weren't paid for it. After you get a general picture, narrow it down to specific jobs. No one starts at the top. Find something you can grow in and eventually you will be in a place where you are happy with what you are doing and can make a decent living out of it.

Grad school relating to business in some way (you already have the business experience),and after grad school, get hired on with a business consulting firm. Consultants make a ton of dough and traveling is a not an option for most consultants but a requirement. You will help businesses solve their problems by researching the situation and consulting on ways to solve the problems or making things better. Someone I know is a consultant and they get paid $80k annually and with bonuses this individual's pay is over $100k a year! After maybe 2 or 3 years, if you want, you can become an independent contractor and how much money you make is up to you.

Go to grad school. This will offer you an opportunity to study for a course that can be an alternate to your BA degree. You need to realise that the more versatile you can be, the greater the possibility of getting that job you want.

You can use the sales experience as an advantage would you want to become a consultant (your problem solving skill). You can also try getting a job as a consultant that travels a lot. It is just a matter of proofing that you can multitask easily.

Yes, what about doing what you enjoy? Took me 30 years to follow my dream. That dream is giving workshops, and retreats and helping others to create their dreams.
I also need a marketer/promoter is that something you would be great at?
I think you might be interested in my "other" business.
