Why do people look at a pretty baby and say " oh, what a beautiful baby "!!
Then why don't they just be honest, when they see an ugly baby ?

What some people find beautiful, others find ugly. It's completely subjective. For example, some people think Paris Hilton is beautiful and want to look like her. I think she's an ugly toothpick and would not want to look like her at all! Everyone's tastes are different. Just because you may think a baby is ugly, doesn't mean the baby is ugly - that is just your opinion. I can't imagine saying that in front of the baby's parents though. That is completely rude and disrespectful. Just keep your opinions to yourself that's all.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder! I know a very old fashioned phrase but true. People go through a lot to have a baby and they cant choose what it looks like. So even though most new borns look like wrinkly old men, they are so soft and cuddly you can thelp but see something cute in them (even if it is the clothes they are wearing) The poor little child has been squeezed and squashed for the last nine months what do you expect. there are, however, some exceptions but you are not really telling a lie when you say what a lovely baby (see you dont have to say beautiful either)But never refer to a baby as ugly in front of the proud parents even if you are thinking it. We all get what we are given and they change so many times during their childhood it is hard to say who will be a stunner and who will be not so good looking when they grow up. All babies deserve to be loved and if the parents dont think they are cute then who else will. Too much emphasis is put on looks these days - love people for who they are not what they look like

I think its just best not to hurt anyone's feelings. All babies are precious no matter what they look like. And a lot of babies look kinda funny at first anyway.

My uncle would say that every baby was ugly so you knew that you're baby was beautiful. If he said your baby is pretty, then you knew you had an ugly one. lol

Everyone thinks their babies are God's gift. No matter how ugly they seem to other people, they are still the most beautiful little creatures their parents have ever seen. If you think a baby's ugly, just keep your mouth shut and say nothing. You don't have to humor them by complimenting their kid.

because no matter how anyone else feels the mother and father of a baby will always think theres is the cutest. We also do not have *** holes in this society that would make a rude comment like that. What would you do if someone told you that your baby was ugly? People these days get shot at for looking at someone funny. Lets not speak the truth. even if it may be. But ya I see your point. I have seen some ugly babys. But most I think are cute.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, ya know?
I would never hurt any parents feelings. I sure wouldn't want mine hurt. When my son was born I thought he was so pretty (even though boys are supposed to be handsome). I really, truly felt that way. Looking back now, he wasn't all that I had thought. I can tell now how jaundiced he was and how bad he looked because he didn't weigh a lot (4-11). He wasn't ugly to me because he was my baby. He's not ugly to me now even in those pictures but he sure has gotten a lot more handsome!!
No matter what, the innocence a baby possesses is enough to make it perfect.

I guess it's to be polite, and not hurt someone's feelings. When a parent is showing off their new born baby, they are proud of them, and of course they themselves look at their own baby as being beautiful. As I'm sure you would if you had a baby. It would be horrible of someone came to you and told you that your baby, or child was ugly. Wouldn't it?? Rather than someone telling you your baby is ugly wouldn't you rather the person just be quiet and keep it to themselves?.......

I think it is more of the feeling a baby should give you that is beautiful. The innocence and the newness of such a tiny little being that has not been exposed to the sickness of this world yet. Besides ugly is only skin deep, but rude and obnoxious goes all the way to the bone.

Would you like to be told you have an ugly baby? I don't think so.
If the baby is ugly, and I agree some really are, it would be tactless to say such a thing and a white lie is in order.

I don't think there is such a thing as an ugly baby. No one is ugly, until they open their mouth and say something ugly.
