Is it strictly for voting in primaries or is there anything else to it. Perhaps I don't like the way the GOP is headed--should I register in that party so that I could have the chance to fix it.

See below, is that true that one has declared to support that party's ideology. How about if one registers in order to change it totally.

As far as I know, registering for a specific party is mostly for the primaries. You could register for the GOP and try to fix it; you can still vote for independents and Democrats if you don't like the GOP candidate.

You ain't gonna change the party without money, time, and a lot of influence. Being active in politics usually means a lot of grunt work. It is not easy to get into a policy making position in a party...too many want it.

As for registering with a party, move to Texas. We don't do that nonsense here, the primaries are open.

Nevada has a closed-primary system. You must be registered in a party to vote for that party's candidates. If you are registered as non-partisan, you can only vote non-partisan offices. The general election is open to all registered voters. If you want to change your parties platform, get active and start complaining in person to your elected officials.

Yes, its pretty much just for the primaries so you can vote for your parties candidates. It's also sometimes used in jury selection by laywers.
