nurse practitioner or real medical doctor? do nuse practitioners know just as much? im trying to figure out if i should go see a gastro doctor for my stomach problems. i'm 21 and have been to a nurse practitioner for the following reasons:
cramping, gas, bleching, acid indigestion. stools are occasionally soft or small. she tested my blood, she tested for stds, she tested for blood in my stools and any kind of infection in my stools and found nothing wrong, everything normal. i occasionally get abdominal pain, swelling, or maybe just bloating. i get fuller faster than i normally would yet still hungry at times since i am eating stuff without milk (such as sandiwches hot dogds and soup) trying to stay away from milk to see if im lactose intolerance. the other idea the nurse practitioner thinks it could be is irritable bowel syndrome. anyone ever experiences this or heard of it? should i go see a gastro doctor? or real medical doctor? ive spent so much money on doctor visit as it is

If, your still having problems go see a GI Doc or Internist.
You may spend more $ but you need to get to the bottom of your problem.

A nurse practitioner should be able to help you in any way a doctor would. Actually, most people say that nurse practitioners spend more time listening to them than doctors do.
As you've had ongoing GI symptoms, you could tell the NP that you would like a referral to a gastroenterologist. But be prepared. GI docs will order unpleasant tests.
Irritable bowel syndrome is fairly common. Lots of info online.

Sounds like it could be irritable bowel syndrome to me. Be watchful of the types of vegetables you're eating too because corn and lettuce are major gassy foods that may cause bloating and cramping, etc. Have they tested you for H-pylori? It causes ulcers and causes major problem with your gastro intestinal system. How is your stress level? A nurse practitioner is 4 year BS Nurse with additional year of schooling. They confer with a doctor. If you are not comfortable, request your next appointment with a D.O. or an M.D.

NPs and MDs in general family practice are about the same, more experience means something here. A specialists knows more than them but only wants to see you if you have a serious problem. For this I doubt you will get a referral. To me it sounds like a nervous disorder. The nerves in the stomach are very responsive to stress. You may get some relief with an anti-anxiety med or by reducing stress.

Hi, You very well could have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I have had it for years and have had the same symptoms. You should see a gastro doctor. Also add Benefiber to your diet. I notice that when my stress level goes up the IBS gets worse. Good luck.

Your nurse practitioner is just as equipped to diagnose general medical problems as any 'real medical doctor'. However, since you seem to have GI issues, ask for a referral to a GI specialist.

Try eating plain yogurt for awhile. Say a couple of weeks. Could be you have an imbalance of your normal flora in your digestive tract.

you could desire to steer away from outdoors foodstuff. considering you're busy in conferences and outdoors artwork you could desire to hold tiffin with you. even donning water bottle would be helpfull as outdoors water isn't potable fairly in wet season. fatty liver isn't something significant. do no longer take any drugs without scientific suggestion. eat healthy stay healthy !

I think you need to see a good internist, specializing in gastro-enterology.
