Come on! didn't you watch "Back to the Future"? ! ? ! ? it was on 1955, in Hill Valley, California. Marty McFly came up with it.

In the early 60s when I was a kid (yeah, yeah, I'm that old) skateboards were around. And I never saw boxcarts being converted to skateboards. Boxcarts were so uncool that only the nerds dared use them.

We made our own skateboards using the metal plates and wheels from skating rink skates and flat boards with rounded front edges There were no curved upwards boards then.

I have no idea who actually invented the skateboard. I just remember them being around when JFK was president.

Al Gore invented the skateboard in 1982.

Hobie Alter made them in the early sixties for surfer to practice with on flat days.

Good question! I read what wikipedia has but I'm not sure I really believe about the boxcar theory, sounds more like a back to the future thing...
