Honestly, your baby will come when it's ready!! I know it's super hard to wait, but it's better to have a baby that's a little over due then born too early!! Hang in there!

Those are the only things you can do that are safe.

Everything else is either dangerous, or an old wives' tale, or both.

And none of those three will work unless your baby and your body are ready.

Sorry.

Truly, though, it's a good thing. I know those last weeks are hard, but 1 in 8 babies is now born premature (before 37 weeks). And even babies born at 38 weeks have more health problems and higher health care costs than those born at 40 weeks.

That's true for my girls: both were born at 37-38 weeks, and neither had any breathing problems or had to stay in the NICU. And they're not sickly. But they've both had more ongoing health problems than their peers, everything from febrile seizures to VUR to grade 3-4 reflux. Can't say for sure that things would have been easier if they'd "cooked" longer, but it definitely makes me think...

Left alone, the average pregnancy lasts 42 1/2 weeks. Your baby may still have a month left that it needs for development. If you are tired of being pregnant, there are other things you can do to feel better. Go get a massage. If you can't afford a massage, find someone who will massage you in exchange for you listening to them whine while they are doing it.

My mother was a month over due with me (at least, although some doctors speculated it was more). My head was stuck in her pelvis. She went into heavy labor when she tripped on a gas hose and fell on her stomach, thus lodging my head further into the tilt in her pelvis. It resulted in 42 hours of very painful labor, and ultimately an emergency c-section when my heart stopped.
Speaking as a baby who had trouble coming out, I suggest you check to see if your baby is stuck.

My doctor told me at 38 weeks to try 2 oz of castor oil with 4 oz of OJ. It worked, both times and it is safe. But.....boy is it tough to get down. Yuck. Good luck though and be ready I know several people this worked for.

I assume you're the wife that's asking? I hope.
All those things should work, be careful with the sex, start cleaning your house, scrub the kitchen floor on your hands and knees.
This always helped me and I came back to a clean kitchen.

Lay on the floor, spread your legs, and have a four hundred pound person jump up and down on your stomach. Have someone across the room, hold a plastic bag. or basket and catch the little feller, as he squirts out of your vaginal cavity!

I know this will sound crazy but talk to your doctor about induction. I was a little late with my child and the day after I talked to the doc about induction...out she came. They don't like to be forced so if you talk about, they come on their own.
