Which country to you think would do a better job if they were to find themselves in the position of the US, and why?

I'm re-posting this since a bunch of Americans mis-read it and got bent.
I'm an American, and I'm not asking this to bash my own country. I'm asking because I want to know if people think their country would be more benevolent if they were in the same position as the US in terms of economic and military power.

I'm not necessarily speaking specifically in terms of our current situation with al quaida and iraq. I've been overseas for years, and as long as I've met foreigners they have always badmouthed American and Americans. So I'm askin', who would be better when put in the same position?

You know it is not going to matter who is in the spot light. We are just as good of a group of people as any other. So Why not the United States. If you remember, everyone hatted Russia till they fell.

You know I have never liked being called the Americans because we are from the United States of America. It is a small country in the middle of North America. I think I would be happier just being called Yanks. But that could get you beat up if you are from the southern part of the United States and the south is now richer then the North.. So it can't be how rich a country is.

The problem we have being hatted all over the world is because our government keeps sticking it's nose in others business. Which would happen to anyone that self proclaims they are the world police. Our Government just wants to rule the world. If they can get it set up for the US to be the world police then it would rule the world.

I live in the US and I can see it and If I can see it I am sure the rest of the world can see it as well.

So where do you think our problems come from?

I don't think that they think Americans are so immoral. America has always been democratic
open handed and always extending foreign aids to several countries. and the national police for the whole world. I guess what they always complain is the picture of the ugly Americans who go to wars in other countries and slaughter their babies and women. Vietnam was a classic example of this. The veterans who came back from there were greeted with jeers, eggs, and what not. Maybe, America should just keep to itself and let them kill each other. And if they kidnap or terrorize any citizens, send them all back where they came from. . Ban these from coming here. America is the best country.; no matter what anybody says,.

I will ask this...if America has as many problems and so screwed up as many Americans and foreigners say...why do we never hear of Americans drowning when their boats flips on the trip to Cuba, or jumping the fence to Mexico or hiding in an oil tanker trying to emigrate to China....it is always the other way around.

America does lead the world. I say that because whenever there is an issue, problem, or concern....everyone turns to the US. Nobody asks Germany for money, though they are rich...nobody asks China for troops, though they have the largest Army...nobody asks India for Peacekeepers...everyone always turns to us first. We are also the one of the only countries that does not require every male to serve as a conscript in the military. For that reason, more males should enlist, because they can, not have to serve.

We are hated for numerous reasons. for our success, wealth...I have even heard a quote..."I want to move to America--even the poor people are fat!!!" Also, we are considered a Judeo-Christian nation, though founded on religious freedom. We are not a religious nation, but hated by religious zealots for not being a religious nation-especially not their religion.

Personally, I don't think we're immoral or have done a terrible job of keeping our commitments and helping others. (I don't feel that we are the world leaders, however.)

What other nation can claim the amount of help that we've always given after a disaster or the speed with which that help is sent? Americans dig deep in their pockets and respond quickly to a need, be it food for drought stricken countries or the basic necessities of life after a tsunami.

I don't think any other country could surpass us -- equal, perhaps -- but certainly not exceed the generosity and kindness of the American people.

If there was another country in America's place, there would still be fanatical idiots in the rest of the world determined to change it for the worse.

That other country would almost undoubtedly find itself in the unenviable position of having to make the decision of fighting at home, or fighting overseas.

As long as there is a successful country, there will be others who want it destroyed for one reason or another.

So, if America is so immoral and hateful, then why are so many people risking their lives to come here?

Instead of solving our own problems where we have homelessness, our elderly are often a forgotten population that must decide whether to buy food or medicines, our poor and elderly and disabled often do without necessities and we have had floods and hurricanes and natural disasters and even had terrorist attacks... and no other nation has come to our help except Canada, our good neighbors... in spite of OUR OWN problems we still find it in us to help others all over the world to stop hunger, malnutrition, genocide, human rights violations, etc.

What other country has done more to help the poor countries in humanitarian aid with money, building supplies, food, shelter, medical volunteers, medicines, sent volunteers for education and helped in times of famine, drought, floods and other natural disasters? China? (NO) Russia? (NO)

I think Sweden might do a better job. Sure, they have their problems but their government seems to really appreciate the value of human life and the quality of that life. Swedish citizens have lots of access to things that make life good--- health care, education, pensions/retirement plans, etc. They are leaders when it comes to alternative power sources, especially hydro-electric, and they definitely value preserving the environment. I would think they would bring a lot of these values to the global scale if they had the money, size and power we do. You never can tell, though. They might be worse! But judging simply on what that society seems to find important, I think they might be better at "leading" the world than we are.

Well last time I checked, America did not lead the world. That's an American fallacy because we don't get much exposure to international news and culture and don't realize that others don't view us as world leaders, just a world power.

Are we the most powerful nation? Perhaps...we certainly used to be, but if China hasn't passed us already they will soon, and if they choose to begin using their political muscle we should all be careful.

hmmm....ok, hypothetical answer:

3 probable countries

Austria = all of them carry guns but are very well-disclipined and responsible. They are also very neutral so that keeps them out of trouble.

Switzerland = neutrality is their key to success. They just do their job and keep their noses out of other people's business.

Greenland = I haven't heard of anything bad happening there or any political crises at the moment so they must be doing something right.

But that's all hypothetical.

Peace.
