I'm getting married next year and need to get on birth control. I know that the pill and shot are both effective, but I hate the idea of pumping hormones into my body (I have 2 friends now that have had complications do to the pill). Are there any other reliable forms of birth control that are hormone free... preferably not condoms..
Thanks for the help!

There are little risks of side effects from Yasmin. It is a low dose. I had problems with regular B/C pills before. DON'T GET THE DEPO SHOT!!!! I had MAJOR problems with this. I have known this shot to actually destroy marriages because of the hormonal effects on the woman! My ex-roommate gained 60 pounds on it and became almost suicidal.

You dont want pills or condoms, the choice left is only stop sex, thts the best form of Birth Control.
There are some pills available which are mild yet effective, it would be wise to consult your doctor to get the best pills for you. You have to lose something to gain something, if dont want pills then condom is your answer, and if dont want both.....well, stop sex is the only option.

i practice Natural family planning (NFP). you don't take any hormones and it has works in two ways you can use it to prevent pregnancy and you can use it to get pregnant. I learned it through my church and have been using it for 8 year gotten pregnant twice (wanting too) and prevented the remaining time. You should try and call you church or any catholic church (or maybe look it up on the Internet) and ask about it. NFP is similar to the ovulation method but a little different. GOOD LUCK

i was on depo for 4 years and now i have osteopenia, a lighter form of osteoporosis.... yes, from the depo. i found this out when i went thru marine corps officer training and i was sent home with 4 stress fractures. i was put on crutches for 3 months, and when i went back in to my obgyn for my shot they had to run a bone density scan, and that's when i found out i have serious bone problems... oh did i forget to mention that i was 22 when i found out?!?! now i'm stuck taking osteoporosis meds for post menopausal women.
i should note that if i kept getting the shot i would eventually have osteoporosis...
i'm on nuva ring now and i LOVE IT!!! it is great. i totally recommend it!

I have to agree with Angie, you usually ovulate 10-14 days after the first day of your last period. You don't want to have sex for about a week around the time of ovulation. Sperm can live up to 78 hrs. after intercourse. I hope this helps. you can also call your local planned parenthood and see if they have any suggestions for you. Good luck and Congratulations on the impending nuptials!!!

I would recommend the pills or the patch. Needles not a good combination, who knows what kind of drugs they mix in with that syrum...so yeah either one of those are good choices.
