My boy can't breath and so.. to the hospital we ran but.... the weeks go by and there is no way in sight out of all the bills and we still can't go home. In RD there was a Doctor that said that the problem with American medicen is people who can't aford it still get itso does that mean that the rich are the only ones who have the right to live any more? Yet (unlike me) some people don't think they have to pay. Tell me what you think and what you would do

Your first step should be to contact the hospital's own social services department for whatever help they have available for covering the bills. Then go to your county social services agency and apply for whatever medical coverage (and any other services) you can qualify for. If you need prescriptions that are very expensive ask the pharmacy if you can get the generic equivalent of the brand-name medicine. One of the big problems is that drug companies have to spend millions of dollars and many years testing medicines before they can ever offer them for sale so they get their money back by pricing the medicine out of reach of average people without insurance. Another problem that causes the doctors and hospitals to charge high fees is the lawsuits that have been won in this country for millions of dollars over little things that really don't deserve such huge monetary awards for pain/suffering and malpractice. These lawsuits cause malpractice insurance to go up so high doctors cannot afford to stay in practice unless they charge high fees. I hope your boy ends up getting the care he needs and recovers from what is making it hard for him to breathe.

Contact a social worker at the hospital for help. If your bf qualifies for Medicaid he should apply. If he does not then ask about indigent care programs. Finally, if you are able & willing to pay work out a payment plan and absolutely do not pay their first bill. You must negotiate with them. No insurance company pays the amount you will be billed without insurance so don't let them get away with expecting you to pay their bills. Also ask for a line item bill & review it carefully for $25 aspirin, double billings & other errors. Hospital bills are notoris for errors.
Hope your bf feels better.

No offense but thats one up for Australia we have free hospital care for anyone regardless of wealth or health, I dont understand why every country doesnt have this, it just seems common sense to me. Good luck with your little man.

I do not know where you live, but I think that if it is possible, you should consider moving to Canada.
