My music teacher once told us that Johann Sebastian Bach dedicated all of his work to God, putting on each piece "To God alone, do I give glory". I'm sure Bach did this, but I'm not entirely sure on the actual quote.

Bach wrote his music for God. Most of his works are explicitly biblical. The famous missionary doctor Albert Schweitzer, who was also an expert on Bach, called him "the Fifth Evangelist." Bach's music is indisputably in a league by itself.

The "ultimate cause" of "real music," Bach wrote, "should be none else but the glory of God and the recreation of the soul/mind. Where this is not observed, there is no real music, but only a devilish blare and hubbub."

Actually that isn't true. I must rever you to the Grove's Encyclopaedia, which is THE authority to consult on classical and baroque musicians (Bach was baroque).
