Audrey Hepburn, so sophisticated and has such natural looks, Monroe was pretty but had more of the stereotypical blonde/dim image to her even though her hair colour was actually brown. Some would say her image was faker than Hepburns, Audrey didn't have to alter herself in any way to look great. Audrey Hepburn was also a much more talented actress, she was able to convey a variey of roles, Marilyn was somewhat overhyped and choosen for her looks rather than her acting ability.

Audrey Hepburn she had style and she had grace. Marilyn Monroe reminds me of a fawn, all doe eyed and innocent a woman that men wanted to used.Because of those qualities in Marilyn Munroe's looks and personality. That is why I pick Audrey Hepburn as a movie Icon.

I am more familiar with Marilyn, having seen three or four of her movies and liked them all. On the other hand, I only saw Audrey in Breakfast At Tiffany's, which for some reason I really didn't like...
So, I'd go with Marilyn (even though I usually go with the less well known choice on everything...) Also, Marilyn had a real screen presence, a real weird feminine grace that was superlative, like the goddess Venus incarnate. Whereas Audrey was more androgynous in her beauty, and looked like she has a brain, an intellectual grace, not just boobs and butt and pout. Although Audrey was wonderful, I can think of other women with that cool boy-girlish quality... but I can't think of anyone comparable to Marilyn. (Hmmm... well, sometimes I think Liv Tyler has a slight marilynesque vibe, but its really faint, a slight echo.)

Audrey Hepburn. Hers was a happier story. Marilyn Monroe was a tragic figure.

Audrey Hepburn. Marilyn Monroe was pretty and did well in comedy. Audrey Hepburn, was very wholesome looking and very pretty as well. She was better at playing different roles. Her characters were very believable. Thank you.

Those two do not even belong in same sentence! Monroe was a horrible actress! She was a very beautiful and sexy woman but could not act. Icon no! Now Hepburn was an actress a true actress and is an icon and should be. Hepburn made he mark with talent not bosoms!

Marilyn is an icon - an image, specifically a white dress being blown up, Audrey is an actress as an actress she may well be far superior to Marilyn and had better movie roles but there isn't a SINGLE image that pops to mind, there are movies she was in that you remember memorably

I am not sure, but sounds both are from different period of times?
I would like Audrey Hepburn, she is elegant, classy, shows the feminine image very well. On the other hand, Monroe is different, she is hot, she is sexy, she shows the other side of the woman.

Audrey Hepburn..she was the epitome of class, grace, poise, dignity and charm. Nothing against Ms Monroe, but she seems almost brash in comparison *imo*
Edit: to goaskthechef. Excuse me...Audrey Hepburn was an active hands on participant in Unicef. How is that not contributing to society?
