It depends how much water is there when you leave them.

But if its in a vase, about 5 days before it starts to change. In the ground, it takes a while.

If you hang them upside down and allow them to dry, they will be somewhat preserved and you dont have to worry about them

If you will store them upside down they will never wilt. Also you can just kind of lay them around on top of things like bookcases or furniture, etc. They will smell awful though. Beware. Think twice before you sniff.
