Mate, where pets are concerned, remember this: something lost, something gained... what do you want most in a pet? There are a series of "tradeoffs" with all pets. With reptiles... well, the "cuddle" factor is almost abysmal, but at least they only shed or "molt" once or twice a year. Cats & dogs are more "interactive," but are a lot more "up-keep" or "high maintenance." Birds are kind of a "middle ground" between "the furries" and "the scalies." In my opinion, the worst pet you could have is a baby alligator... cute for about six months, then not so much!

I would think the worst pet to own is a pet rock. The don't return your affection ever. Other than that all pets can be both cool and a nightmare. Choose wisely.

i think the question is not the worst pet to own, but who are the worst people to own certain types of pets.
To the woman whose mother got rid of the iguana for whipping you with it's tail.....your mother is an idiot and has no respect for other life forms, a pet is a commitment similar to marriage, make the decision carefully, because life-forms should not be disposable.

I would have to say that an Elephant would be the worst pet to own. Especially if you live in a small house or apartment. Not only would it outgrow the place awful quick but cleaning up after it would be a real chore.

a dwarf hamster. i'm telling you they are satan's little minions. demon hamsters. i hate those things. i have been bit more by those things than i have a snake. that is just really freakin sad. i work in a pet store.
