Be careful with the newpaper because the ink may stain your carpet if it is light colored! I use a brown grocery bag and hot iron but only after I have scraped as much as I can with a dinner knife or putty knife. Separate the yarn and dig down deep to scrape all you can out. Do not use a sharp knife because it will cut or fray the rug yarns. Vaccum the small pieces of wax after picking up the most of it by hand. Then use the iron. Move the bag to a clean spot and put it over the wax and repeat until you get it out. Be careful not to use too much heat or leave the iron on the rug too long or you will scorch the rug. Be careful not to place the used part of the bag on the carpet or you will have another mess to clean!Latex paint should wash out with soap and water. You may need to use paint thinner if it has been in the carpet for a while. Wash out the thinner/remover with carpet shampoo and rinse the carpet well because soap scum will attract dirt and it will build up and look awful! Best wishes.

Paint can be removed by kerosene then kerosene can be removed by soap, wax a bit difficult, fill up a bottle with hot water and roll it over the wax, use tissue paper to absorb it, can spread some tissue below the carpet also to make it clean both side, just an imagination need to try..

try using a piece of ice to remove the candle wax. Depending on what kind of paint it is- oil based or water based- water should remove water based. You may have to get a paint thinner to remove oil based paints. If its only a spot on the top of the carpet try just pulling the paint off the carpet fibers. Also, try your local hardware store if your unsure of what to use. They have products made especially for what you need based on the type of paint that is involved. Good Luck.

Paint: if it's latex try a special stain remover, look at the ones for sale near the carpet steam cleaners for rent in your local grocery store. Read the bottle and pick the one that says it removes paint.

Candle wax: That newspaper and iron trick the other lady mentioned, works like magic. Believe you mean I've tried it many times.

iron it out. Seriously..place a WARM (not hot) iron over a piece of newspaper. The heat from the iron should melt the wax...the liquid wax will get absorbed up into the newspapter.
