Is gay porn addiction different than straight porn addiction, in what ways? In some ways I feel as if issues with the "closet" and being victimized by some facets of heterosexual culture easily lead a gay individual to seclude themselves behind doors and into pornography addiction. Is it more challenging for gay/lesbians to overcome porn addiction because of a "closeted" nature?

My partner has severe porn addiction issues, and I'm simply wandering if there are specifics for the gay community?

My view is that straight porn addiction has a predictable and maybe even telling effect on the man if he is in a steady relationship. Women usually know when something's afoot in that area. Perhaps the straight man does not have the time because of his entanglements.
You have a point, I think, about the often solitude placed upon many gay men who are closeted. The porn attraction may also begin earlier, in early teens, etc. for a gay boy and gain in strength as the years go by. By the time he establishes a relationship the addiction is very strong.
Don't know what you mean by "severe." He does have a life, work and get on with the day, doesn't he? Also, porn in moderation is part of millions of people's lives and they get along fine. If your partner holes up in a room and spends hours watching porn and you cannot get him back to interests he used to have, then I would say that therapeutic counseling is needed to clarify for him the factors that drive him to isolate and focus on that limited activity. Depression is a possibility because living through fantasy relieves some of the depression. Drug abuse and alcohol abuse do the same and may have the same initial incidents leading to the addictions. A talk with a good therapist who has treated people with the same or similar issue is a good way to rule things out.
You must have known of this interest when you met. Still, any addiction can and often is a deal breaker when we are talking relationships. Good luck.

I'm not gay, nor am I addicted to porn. However, I don't feel that there is such a need to be in the closet anymore. I might be a bit naive, but that is how I feel. I have many friends that are gay and they don't hide it. Never once have I seen them treated differently because of there sexual preference...

As far as the addiction goes, I think anyone could become addicted. Sex is fun and a lot of people can't think about much else... I think it could be very easy for people to become addicted. If your partner has a problem big enough that makes his/her miss out on things in life because he/she would rather be looking at porn then they do have a major problem and need to talk to someone about that.....

Good luck.

The real question here is what is your relationship life with your wife. If you have a healthy sexual relationship with your wife, then you may be bi. If you find that you PREFER watching gay porn or think about being with a man when you're with your wife, then you have a problem to deal with. If it's the latter, you do truly need to do some self reflection and decide what you want in life. It's not fair to you or to your partner (your wife) if you're not 100% vested in the relationship. And, it's going to come out sooner or later.
