Actually it is difficult to say - sometimes, on a wet rainy night, I love to curl down with a whodunit (I can re-read Agatha Christie over n over again!).
At times, when I don't want to read any heavy stuff (like on a journey, when I would rather be enjoying my trip) I take a light book, like a Gothic romance or historical novel or even fantasy (Phillip Pullman for eg).
And when I feel I need some brain food, I go for something more intense (like Ian McEwan or Jose Saramago)

The Sacred Scriptures which are now freely and easily accessible at the Gutenberg Project.
I love to read them because they have been tested and proved through thousands of years about their wisest and most useful counsels.
