Parakeets are a particularly Playful species of bird. They are always inquizitive yet friendly. There are a few reasons that they may be fighting. One of the reasons might be that they are both of the same sex eg. 2 females. Although most parakeets of the same sex tend to get along for a while, as they get older and reach sexual maturity they will start competing in an act of dominence to see who is the more dominant of them both. Once this is determined the less dominant one will back off and not look for any arguements what so ever with the other! Or reason no. 2 is: They might be possesive over the owner and tend to fight in a jelouse way. Especially when there is food involved! If you take your birds out alot, make sure that u show them both the same amount of affection. If they do start to argue over something, a good way to stop them from hurting each other is to blow inbetween them both. Birds hate this and will soon back off from each other and calm down! Hope it helps

I have eight horses and there is a definate pecking order. I can tell you from 1 to 8 how they stack up, except for the 3 & 4 horse who have eaten from each others bucket since they were foals.

They know who is above them and yeild to each other based upon that pecking order. Is it always fair, no. Number 8 horse needs to eat fast or someone is going to get the bottom of his bucket, However, their pecking order keeps the peace most of the time.

The exception was a few years ago when Taco the oldest of the horses was challenged by Dancer for dominance. For about a period they squablled, nothing like 2 stud colts fight, and eventually Taco gave up the alpha position to Dancer to become the number 2 horse and peace was restored.

They establish thier pecking order and then I respect it. When they come in to the barn or get turned out, I do this based upon thier pecking order. (the number 5 horse doesn't want to challange the number one horse, so I don't bring him in before her)

If you do not have seperate feeding bowls, I would get another bowl and when filling them I would always fill the dominate birds bowl first and recognise that in trying to treat them fairly sometimes is really unfairly bringing trouble on the less dominate bird.
