I think it's sad that those who generalize and rely on stereotypes miss out on getting to know some great people simply because of their ignorance. I believe people should be appreciated as individuals, not lumped into a group and judged by the actions or attitudes of some people.

Thoughts?

I agree completely. I have a very diverse group of friends and acquaintances, and like each of them for who THEY are, not their background, appearance, beliefs, etc. The world would be a much more peaceful place if more people thought this way...

that is true but you also have to live with the fact that their will always be some group or some ppl that are going to reliy on stereotypes because that is all that they have and also it does not help that when some ppl do give it a chance they are exactly how they thought they would be. people that stereotype dont trust and not trusting will lead to blocking their mind from anything else. if the group does not change then neither will the people that stereotype. crummy world i know

I feel the same way... most of the people in my PE class are like this. They have 3 people that they call "gay" (totally misusing the word) because he's different.
Most people like that learn it from their parents, i've found. We had one kid who thought it was ok to say the "n" word .. boy, awkward times there.. but he's worked his way out of it, he learned it from his grandfather.

Other groups just find it easier to call large groups of people things. They group them into political parties, into sexual prefrences, different hair styles.. stuff like that.
I've givin into this thought, i've always lumped the group of "preppy" kids together. I learned that they are different and not all the exact same mold.. but it made my life easier to group them.

The Great Son House (blues musician deserving of the title) said something like, "Think twice and speak once, because the devil will beat God to you everytime to tell you something. So, think twice and speak once." I don't believe in God or the devil, but I take that advice. Seems prudent and fair.

Ditto. Everyone here used to have genuine questions, like how do you make a great lasagna. Now, it is becoming a platform for or against all of these political agenda's. Anti-gay, anti-muslim, pro-christian, crap.

good point. very good point. but as an afterthought, some stereotypes are true, its just that they never cover all people in the catagory that they target, it may be a majority, but never 100%.
