Because of Elvis Presley we've had everything from rock to rap... before that Slim Whitman, Patsy Cline, etc.. but if Les Paul did not breakthrough with the electric guitar we would not have Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen, Metallica, Megadeth, Led Zepplin, Cream, The Who, 80's Hair bands, and the great Eric Clapton.. it's hard to put the focus on one band.. Even Prince changed the way music was produced in his day and age..

hmmm.... it's a toss up between jimi hendrix and the Beatles. Rock after Jimi sounded very different from Rock Before Jimi, he was a turning point. But the Beatles had a huge influence on how people write melodies that is still used now.

The Beatles because their influence is huge and ranges from the extremes. Many songs from contemporary artists are influenced by the Beatles. (example Look What You've Done by Jet). The other end is the crazy end. I've heard about this one guy who has killed many people because he believed the Beatles wanted them dead.
Also, how many movies have a Beatles song in them?

The beatles, because they really revolutionized and changed the meaning of rock and roll. john lennon, ringo starr, george harrison, and paul mccartney are musical genuises and should be memorized and cherished for many years to come.
