I have a '93 Ford Taurus. When I come to a stop it slips in to neutral and I have to shift in to reverse and then in to drive to get going again. This doesn't happen on short trips only after it has warmed up a bit. No matter when I have driven it though I smell trasmission fluid but, I don't see any leaking.

Thanks.

The forward clutch piston is cracked.
I don't care what anyone else says they are wrong.
You need to replace the cracked aluminum forward clutch piston with a new revised steel forward clutch piston. Since there used to be an extended warranty coverage program you might oughta take it to the dealer.

One thing for certain, the Ford Taurus has tranny trouble, lots. When you replace the unit, make sure you change the fluid periodically to prolong tranny life

you need to take it in and have the valve body checked out on it,,i have a feeling its getting ready to go out on you,i own a repair shop,,and have seen a few of the older Taurus do this,,and they had a bad valve body in them,,this is what makes them stay in a gear,,or come out of gear,,i have recommended that a lot of people take them in to have them checked,,by a transmission expert,,because they can be tricky, and need to be diagnosed properly,,good luck with it,,hope this help,s.

Well, its coming from somewhere. Seems like its leaking out, and and your quite low on it. Could be coming from the tranny cooler, in, or near the radiator. Good luck.

Clutches wearing out, or possibly a bad front pump.

Could be a plugged oil filter. I saw a car do that, and a fluid and filter change cured it.
