Some teens may develop irregular periods - or stop having periods altogether - as a result of a hormone imbalance. Disorders of the thyroid gland can cause menstrual irregularities if the levels of thyroid hormone in the blood become too low or too high. Some women have irregular periods because their bodies produce too much androgen, which is a hormone that causes increased muscle mass, facial hair, and deepening of the voice in males and the development of pubic hair and increased height in girls. High amounts of androgen can also cause hair growth on the face, chin, chest, and abdomen, and is sometimes associated with excessive weight gain.

Anythign can change your cycle.. Diet and exercise.... Emotional health... and your friends... It has been shown that if a group of women are really close, spend a good deal of time together their cycles will start to match... Changes in cycle are really not unusual.... I would keep an eye on it and if it gets really wacky see the Dr... Otherwise just mention it at your next visit...

They can change their cycles due to health, stress, eating habits. Keep track and if it keeps coming closer and closer together see your doctor, if less than 3 weeks between periods.
As long as it is normal bleeding and cramps wise you should be fine, but still tell your doctor at your next check up.

my doctor told me once this may occur when you are around the age 18-20. He said it is normal and after a while you'll get your period as usual.

As we get older, they can change. Mine did as I got older. If you are worried, get yourself checked out.
