An extended family is the opposite of what is usually called the nuclear family, which is the parents and their children only. An extended family includes grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, etc.

Immediate family is parents, and siblings. Extended family is Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, etc. And some people will include in-laws as extended family.

an extended family could be your mom marrying someone whos not your father, or the other way around

sometimes it means your aunts and uncles, etc, Intermediate is the people who live in your house, so anyone related to you can be considered extended family
