I'm trying to remove the battery from the plastic box-casing but the screws just turn right along with the wratchet and there isn't a nut on the other end. the battery seems to be in-cased in a box.

Them screws are extra long...also try prying up as your turning them. Seems someone stripped them out for you already. Good luck.

well im a owner of a 2000 dakota same thing and the bolts are long but if u look down the side u will see where they go into the bottom of the plastic tray where ur battery sits ushould be able to see the flat washer think on bottom and hold it with screwdriver or whatever u can. after that the battery will come out after u unhook the cables good luck and for ur info the group size on the battery is a group 27 ask for that when u go to parts store or whereever u go

i hate it when that happens you got 2 options try to grab the bottom nut[ i know its not a nut its a flat washer thingy ]
with vice grips
if that doesnt work uour going to brake the plastic box where the nut is [long screwdriver and a hammer]
