I know the education aspect, because I almost went down that road. Fascinates me. Anyways, those 6-month programs you see advertised? Yeah, don't do that. You won't get hired. What you need to do is:
Go to a 4-year university. Major in biology with a minor in anthropology, or major in anthro. Biological anthro will give you a better edge.
Go to grad school in Forensic Anthropology. That's a 2 year program, including a lot of hands-on stuff.
With the schooling, you are very hire-able and will start out with a decent salary (in a city, about 35,000-40,000 a year). Keep in mind it's a job not for the faint of heart or stomach, and having a medical background (like as an EMT) won't hurt either. Good luck!

Education I guess would be the main thing. You'd need a clean record of your own.
You'd also need to be able to block out the human side of yourself and not get emotionally involved when you have to investigate, for example, a child that's been raped and brutally murdered.
Use stories in the news - the murder of Laci Peterson and her baby... could you see yourself handling that investigation and finding the bodies as they did? If not, the career is not for you.

Honey just because it looks cool on tv doesn't make it so. First of all many of the crimes you will deal with are simple burglaries...not glamorous at all. And the ones that SEEM glamorous on TV...well dead bodies are not fun to look at. They are not fun to smell.
In other words this job takes a strong stomach and just a desire to be like those sexy actors you see on CSI.

youll laugh you can find colleges with 6 mo degree classes and go from there seriously - it depends on what all you want to do , specialize in ,- the 6 mo may not be the new york los angelous atlanta crime scene unit but theres different positions, feild work, lab work, fingerprint analysis, i dunno but check it out if its what you want yeah um im sure you have considered its not all tv glam i suppose the other people who do this work have realized it too, you never know you may find out who kidnapped their kids one day, or robbed their small buisiness - good luck

Oooh I thought about it too, but be warned it's not as fun as BONES and the CSI movies make it look.
If you're still interested I believe it takes a 4 year college degree (Associates)

I would love to do that. Lots of money & many years. And I do believe you have to start out as an ordinary police officer first.
