I think it says something that there are full-credit college courses on the history of rock (in which my college roommate could only manage a "C") The TRL generation tends not to look past 1999, and what that means to the artists is that they can rehash (read "butcher") old classics to fans that are none the wiser

The dumbing down process has certainly had a profound effect on many aspects and the history of rock is deeper than the surface glance. But there are those youths out there that have the ability for deductive reasoning & inquisitive minds. It is to them, that I trust the future.
They will not only remember rock & its history, but the history of human-kind. They will see the flaws, failures, and triumphs. These young people will have the intelligence, drive, and desire to remember not only music, but the mistakes of the past. They will be the strong leaders of tomorrow.

No. If you trace the history back to it's roots in R&B & Blues and then work foward it's still easy enough to follow.
Besides, rock & roll is what it is, what's to understand? So long as it isnt the corporate pre-packaged ******** that so many love. (Ie. Nickleback)

It depends on how much time the young have on their hands...a whole lifetime? Then the history of rock and roll should come easy for them...LOL

I'm a musician and even though I'm young. I still know my roots.
My mother would constantly quiz me on who was playing on the radio stations since I was a little girl.
But I totally understand your question becauseI often wonder that myself. How can someone carry around a cd player and yet not even know who the Doors are? It still gets me everytime.
Just hang in there.

Its easy to learn and not as important as you think.
People need to stop obsessing over old "classic" rock and look into new rock. And no I dont mean shitty rock. Just because they may have been good at one time does not mean they are now!

As long as they can turn on their radio/ mp3 player/ ipod or the like and music comes out, I doubt they care.
