Several years ago, I read a children or young adult book about two children, a boy and a girl, choosing five mythological characters to do a school report on. After they chose, these mythological figures (one of which was Baba Yaga) showed up, and they all were whisked off to fight off a bunch of aliens coming to invade the earth. One of the children also had a toy Tribble (from Star Trek) that came to life and multiplied. There was some discussion about the process of becoming a mythological figure, including a mention of Elvis Presley, I believe.
I have been searching on and off for this novel for a couple of years, and would appreciate any information anyone can give me about it, especcially a title or author, or both.

Ah... I know this. The book is called "Weirdos of the Universe Unite" by Pamela F. It's on Amazon for 1 cent!

Baby Yaga and Vasilisa the Brave is the only thing I could find close to what you are describing. Not sure but you could check it out.
