For the past year I've had problems with my eyes (not vision). I get little spots of mucus that blur my vision. My eyes always feel like they've got something in them. My eyelashes have thinned - probably because of pulling when I try to find out what is poking my eye. And sometimes I get red itchy patches on my eyelids or below my eyes. I've been to the doctor before, but she only gave me a cream to help the red itchy patches. Any suggestions on what this might be and how I can get rid of it?

Start by running very warm water and soaking it into your eyes for about 5 minutes each morning and night. In between put artificial tears in your eyes to augment your tear production. You should notice the change in about 3-5 days. If nothing happens for 2 weeks, book yourself into an eye surgeon for a complete eye checkup--you might want to do that anyway. NOT an eye doctor--an eye surgeon. It could be an eye problem, sinus problem, or some type of inflammation or virus. Best to check.

You probably have an infection or your tear ducts just may be overproducing tears. Try an eyewash once or twice a day. If it doesn't help see another doctor!! The patches on your eyelids are probably from rubbing them, the skin on you eyelids is very sensitive and can get irritated really easily. Dab a little moisturizing cream on them and it should help just be sure not to get it into your eyes.

I have this problem, too, because of my dry eyes. In fact, it's a symptom of extreme dry eye.

Don't rub and poke at your eyes when they feel gritty. If it is dry eyes, you could cause yourself a corneal erosion - which is very painful, though they heal pretty quickly. Go to an opthalmologist or optometrist for an eye exam and tell the doc what's going on.

Until you get to the doctor, try some artificial tears (not regular drops like Visine), and see if that helps.

Sounds like you have whats called conjunctivitis (pink eye)
You should see another doctor about it other than your own. Doctors are people too and can sometimes make mistakes. Hope this helps.

You may have dry eye syndrome. Go back to your doctor and ask to be sent to a specialist.
