I suppose we copy a lot of things from America & i suppose the kids like the idea of free lollies but its to late now because every year in our suburb a big do is put on for it,not that i agree with it.

Well, since it is an English (from the Druids of Britain), and Australia, why wouldn't be celebrated in Australia. Besides that, it's fun. Candy, parties, and a reason for women to dress in slinky outfits, why the hell not?

No, not an Aussie tradition but a darned good reason to go and get free chocolate!!!! Besides, it's fun to dress up and walk around like a loon (or in my case a Killer Bunny) :)

hey i'm an aussie so will answer from an aussie point of view. the kids love to dress up and get free candy, and the parents love having the kids outa the house for a while (maybe so they can have a quick shag). Australia has become so americanized anyway, soon we'll be celebrating the 4th of July LOL :)

Some kids turned up at my door wanting lollies. No way. I don't think it should be encouraged. I would not allow my kids to sell raffle tickets door to door - we don't know these people. The kids want to dress up maybe Australia should come up with it's own day. They still won't get free gut rot from me though.
