If you were to inhale pure carbon monoxide for a short period of time, would pain occur before or after the loss of consciousness?

That is, would death by the inhalation of CO be in any way painful?

I work in Low Temperature Physics and I know that two breaths of pure nitrogen will instantly make you unconsciously and you don't feel anything before you pass out. Since Carbon Monoxide works on the same principles, my educated guess would be that Carbon Monoxide wouldn't cause any pain either before it renders you unconscious,

I've seen newsreports of people found dead over night inside their cars with the engine and A/C, the deaths apparently from CO. They fell asleep loose consciousness and died, if they were to feel pain I think they would woke up before too late.... on the other side Pain is a feeling and it can only be experienced by a conscious living being.

Hi. Carbon monoxide binds to hemoglobin much better (stronger) than oxygen. You would pass out before you felt anything, like going to sleep. That being said, if you are asking this because you are in distress then a much better answer is to seek counseling. Now! I just realized that this is your first question using this ID. Get help if you need it, and this really is not a funny joke if you don't.

CO has 200 times more afinity towards haemoglobin than oxygen . It reacts with haemoglobin to form a stable compound called carboxy haemoglobin. This reduces the oxygen carrying capcity of blood. thus pain would occur before losing consciosness

I speak from experience, if you lose consciousness right away you will feel no pain, you'll fall into a deep sleep and never wake up.
If you're conscious you'll feel a pain that'll make you want to be dead.
Now I'm curious why the question?

Actually no, it is a poisen that suffocates your nervous system first.

Most fall into a rigid coma before long, and the brain damage occurs over the next several days. Long-term mild exposure cases often cause personality disorders and learning disabilities.

Apparently, you would feel very sleepy and lose consciousness. Pain has never been documented in CO inhalation cases.

Most people who live through carbon monoxide poisoning report their first syptoms were headaches. If you were only breathing CO2, then you wouldn't be getting oxygen, so you would be struggling to breath.

CO in small quantities for a period of time will be painless. It is absorbed by the blood, blocking its ability to absorb oxygen, so eventually, your brain shuts off.
